Item - Genuine Miniature Medal in mint condition with ribbon.

History and medal information - South Africa 1890-97. Obverse - the Old Head bust of Queen Victoria; Reverse - a charging lion impaled by a spear, with a mimosa bush in the background and a litter of assegais and a shield on the ground. Originally instituted in 1896 for award to troops taking part in the supression of the Matabele rebelion, it was later extended to cover operation in Rhodesia (1896) and Mashonaland (1897).
