We are happy to accept Court mounting requests for British and Commonwealth Military Medal sets either for Full Size Medals or Miniature Medals.

All Medals are Court mounted in house by us (Ex Grenadier Guards military tailor) and quality checked by a Master Tailor to the highest dress regulation and tailoring standards. Having been taught and trained by Various Master Tailors with many years of experience these are proffesionally court mounted.

Our court mounting medal service includes cleaning, new ribbons, backing and brooch bar. The medals are cleaned and polished adding brand new ribbons and the backing which is made from double thickness Buckram covered in Vilene. The medals and ribbons are then machine sewn on (double stitched) to the backing and the brooch bar is hand sewn on and medals sewn down.

The Court Mounted medal sets with backing board are made to Military Dress Regulations and Emergency Services Dress regulation sizes (sewn flat and around the neck) also known as Court Style. to stop them "jingly jangling around" these services are available for both miniature and full size medals and with years of experience in tailoring military medals you can be assured these are done professionally with brand new ribbons and a Buckram backing board , Vilene backed and look fantastic. (No cornflake packet, glue and sticky tape here !) These all come with brooch bars ready to wear.

The advantages of having your medals court mounted also means that they don’t get damaged by medals banging into each other when they are being worn including marching.

Please allow additional time for medals to be cleaned and dipped, re-ribboned and Court Mounted. We can send the old ribbons back with your tailored medals (if required) and would request that no boxes are sent with medals to us to keep return postage costs down.

These all come with the brooch bars included and ready to wear.

Please contact us for further details and timescales to mount medal sets. Discounts for multiple medal sets.

We no longer offer a "loose mounted" service due to the very high volume of "Court Mounted" requests and orders.

Timescales at present are around 12 days.

Questions and Answers -

Q - I have 3 medals already mounted and need another adding ?

A - Medals cannot be added on to an existing set as a new larger backing and wider brooch bar need to be made and added.

Q - Can Commemorative Medals be court mounted with issued medals ?

A - No only issued medals can be court mount together and unofficial medals can be mounted separately and should be worn on the right side or beneath issued medals.

Q - What does Court Mounted mean ?

A - Court Mounting originates from Queen Victoria’s reign when serving members of the armed forces wore full size medals in her attendance (in Court) and was requested to have the medals sewn down onto a backing to prevent them from Jingly Jangling around.

Q - Who can wear Court Mounted medals ?

A - Court Mounting is traditionally linked to the Guards on public duties but after other regiments taking over the roles of Public Duties (The Kings Regiment were the first Non Guards regiment) all serving personnel on or off public duties may wear them and has been widely adopted by the Armed Forces. and Ex-Military Personnel.

Many Royal Navy Units including Royal Marines only wear Loose Mounted.

Q - What difference does it make if the medals are sewn on or glued and sticky taped on ?

A - Our medals (and any professional medal specialists) only sew medals on by sewing machine as this is the proper way and more secure. Medals that are attached by using sticky tape or glue overtime with heat and rain will dry out and the medals will move or fall off.

Q - Why do Full Size Replacement medals have "copy" in tiny letters on the reverse ?

A - The law is that all full size medals that are not original should have this on the reverse to prevent fraud and duplicate medals. They either have copy or c or the letter r on the reverse side.

Q - Can the Malaysia Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal (PJM) be worn with medals ?

A - Yes the following medals have had permission from H M The Queen to wear, Malaysia PJM, Arctic Star , Russian Convoys 40th and 50th and any foreign order/ decoration granted by permission and Bomber Command Clasp. NATO ISAF has now also been given permission to wear 2017.

Q - I got awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal and Saudi Liberation of Kuwait Medal can I wear these with Gulf War 1990 91 medal ?

A - HM Government have decreed that British personeel may accept their medals as a keepsake but permission to wear them in uniform has been denied and refused. The exception is current service personnel when in Dress uniform and receiving heads of state from these countries on regiments approval or Military Attaches.   For veterans and non serving members no formal permission has been given and the Saudi Arabia version was never made to be worn but given as a keepsake in the box of issue which also does not lay flat on a medal backing.

Many Ex-Service men and women have the Gulf, Saudi and Kuwait medals mounted in a wall display and the order should be GULF. KUWAIT LIBERATION then SAUDI LIBERATION OF KUWAIT as the Kuwait Medal is senior to Saudi but after HM Official Issued medals.  We cannot court mount these in full size or in miniature medal size but can supply the medals (unmounted) for wall displays.

Q - What is Buckram ?

A - Buckram is a hexian woven backing that when heated releases adhesive to enable the Vilene cloth backing to stick to.

Q - How wide can medals be when Court Mounted ?

A - The widest width for Full Size medals is the width of a 6 space brooch bar (around 192MM). After this they are overlapped with the medal on the left overlapping the one on the right all the way down for 7 or more medals.

For miniature medals the maximum width I have seen and done is set of 15 medals.

Q - I have ribbons with some of the medals do i need to buy more or send the ribbon in if your court mounting my medals ?

A - No, medal ribbons vary from batch to batch and we replace all ribbons from our own extensive stock which has no colour, shade or width variations and is the proper ribbon. This is included in the court mounting cost so keep hold of the ribbons.

Q - I want my medals court mounted what do I do ?

A - Send us an email through the website or direct to miniaturemedals@hotmail.com with your details and we will advise you how. Please refrain from sending medal boxes with medals as this incurs additional postage costs for you and us on return postage.
